Riyadh Dates Adorn Ramadan Tables and Enhance Nutritional Value for Consumers
Approximately 457 Thousand Tons and 49 Varieties
Dates of all varieties take center stage during the holy month of Ramadan and are considered an essential dish on every Ramadan table. They hold high nutritional value and provide important health benefits after long hours of fasting, offering immediate energy due to their rich content of key nutrients such as natural sugars, acids, minerals, and proteins. Dates are also a good source of energy and help prepare the stomach to receive food, making them the star of the Ramadan table.
The National Center for Palms and Dates explained that the Kingdom is home to more than 400 varieties of high-quality dates distributed across all its regions. This diversity adds significant value by contributing to self-sufficiency and strengthening food security, thereby supporting the national economy in line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.
The Center noted that the Riyadh region alone hosts more than 8.177 million palm trees and over 21,000 farms, producing approximately 457,000 tons of dates and cultivating 49 varieties. The region is also home to more than 60 date factories. Among the most prominent varieties grown in Riyadh are: Khudri, Sukkari, Khalas, and Barhi.
