After years of drought… Morocco’s grain harvest makes a historic leap to 9 million tons
The Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests, Ahmed El Bouari, announced yesterday in Meknes that grain production for the 2025–2026 agricultural season is expected to reach around 9 million tons.
In his opening speech at a high-level international conference held on the occasion of the 18th edition of the International Agricultural Fair in Morocco, which runs until April 28 under the theme “Sustainability of Livestock Production and Food Sovereignty,” Mr. El Bouari stated that:
“Thanks to significant rainfall recorded across all agricultural regions of Morocco, the cultivated area for cereals has reached approximately 3.9 million hectares. Consequently, grain production is expected to approach 9 million tons.”
The minister highlighted that after several consecutive years of drought, this agricultural season has witnessed a notable improvement in rainfall and water availability, which brings optimism and strengthens prospects for a recovery in agricultural activity.
