Morocco Projects 9 Million Ton Grain Harvest for 2026
Morocco’s 2026 cereal harvest is on track to reach roughly 9 million tonnes, Agriculture Minister Ahmed El Bouari announced before the upper house of parliament. The projected yield comprises 4.4 million tonnes of soft wheat, 2.1 million tonnes of durum wheat, and 2.5 million tonnes of barley.
Harvesting operations have surged in recent weeks following initial seasonal delays caused by heavy rains, labor shortages, and equipment constraints. Daily collection volumes surpassed 10,000 tonnes by mid-June, driven largely by increased mechanization and modern agricultural machinery. Production remains heavily concentrated in the key farming regions of Casablanca-Settat, Fès-Meknès, and Marrakech-Safi.
To reinforce national food security and cushion future supply shocks, Morocco is actively expanding its storage infrastructure:
- Capacity Expansion: Introduced new grain storage facilities providing an additional 200,000 tonnes of capacity.
- Increased Subsidies: Raised state support for storage infrastructure development from 10% to 25%.
- Strategic Reserves: Encouraged local operators to stockpile approximately 80,000 tonnes of domestic wheat.
