Algeria Buys Between 540,000 and 720,000 Tonnes of Milling Wheat in International Tender

European traders reported that Algeria’s state-owned grain buyer, the Algerian Professional Office of Cereals (OAIC), has purchased between 540,000 and 720,000 tonnes of milling wheat in an international tender held in recent days.
The final volume purchased could not immediately be confirmed, which is common in Algerian tenders. While most initial estimates pointed to purchases of around 720,000 tonnes, subsequent estimates from traders suggested that the actual volume could be closer to 540,000 tonnes.
According to traders, initial purchase prices ranged between $289 and $290 per tonne, including cost and freight (C&F). Some traders estimated that the highest price recorded in the transaction was approximately $289.50 per tonne, including cost and freight.
The purchases are part of Algeria’s efforts to secure its wheat requirements and strengthen grain stocks, highlighting the continued importance of international markets in meeting domestic demand.
